So, you might have gotten an email letting you know that this blog post was up– at least you might have if you are a member of our Facebook Group.

Recently, Facebook revamped their “Groups” to a new system. The differences and additions to the “New Groups” I still don’t understand. All I know is that I was given the option to upgrade, or the group would be deleted. Enjoy New Coke or NOTHING! The choice is yours!

Apparently by upgrading, a number of our group members began receiving email notifications when I posted on the page. I actually wasn’t aware this was happening until I joined another group and got about 5 emails from them in one day. I quickly went to check to see if any of the other Team:16 gang were receiving update emails– and was further confused when some were, and some weren’t.

Brant Fowler, being the production/technical wizard he is, actually figured it out– naturally (as with all things Facebook) it’s an option that’s buried in your preferences.

So, if you’re a member of Spy6teen’s Facebook group, and you’re receiving emails to your personal account when I update the page, AND you don’t want these emails– here’s how to turn it off (along with any other Groups you don’t want emails from!)

First (and obviously) Log into Facebook.

Look off to the top right side and you’ll see a tab for “Account”

Clicking on that will bring a pulldown menu. You’ll want to go to “Account Settings”

Click on that, which will bring you to a new page. At the top, you’ll see a row of tabs. Go to “Notifications”

From there, you’ll need to scroll about halfway down the page until you come across the “Groups” settings.

Click on the Blue Link that says “Change email settings for individual groups” which will take you to a popup page that will list all the groups you’ve joined– then, simply unclick “Spy6teen”

Now, you might be wondering why I’m telling you how to turn OFF a potentially useful tool for reminding you to swing by the site– The answer: I hate annoying people, and I’m pretty sure that emailing you two or three times a week would end up doing so.

My general rule of thumb thus far is to only use Facebook to announce new pages– If it’s an exceptional or informative blog (like today’s) I’ll also run it. I’m just mildly worried that everytime I post a new picture, Facebook will decide to notify you. Especially if I decided to expand the role of the Facebook page.

In general, I do find Facebook (along with Twitter) to be really useful tools– particularly in light of the fact that we don’t have a message board. Sure, we do have the comments section, but I think those who are comfortable with the Facebook system are more at home leaving comments there. There also tends to be a little more interaction between you guys on Facebook– which is also something I really like.

At one point, I had considered switching over to the “Pages” format– but that didn’t seem as geared to a community type setting. Which is really what I tend to think we are– a small (and growing) community. That said, if you guys have run into any problems or feel like you might be getting spammed/hammered by anything Spy6teen related, please let me know and I’ll put a ka-bosh on it right away!

Thanks again for joining our little corner of social media!!

SCHEDULE!

Ok…bit of a scheduling snafu. As it turns out, we’ll be starting Issue 3 the week after next. So, yeah– our break apparently was 2 weeks. My bad. I think I jumped the gun on announcements.

Reason being is mostly work scheudling conflicts– but it also is giving us a chance to get ahead of the pitch in terms of Issue 3– so, the time off now will pay off over the course of the next 22.
We’ve all been a bit slammed recently– so I’m hopeful that the extra week off will really help with keeping everyone’s head above water.

I do promise to pop on next week with a blog entry– and hopefully some cool unreleased sketches and “making” of stuff! Hopefully early next month I’ll also be starting a blog series that will detail how to start a webcomic! Basically, a “For Dummies” book, written by an actual webcomic dummy!

So that’s it for this week– sorry for the shortness of the blog, as I said: been swamped!

Hopefully that doesn’t deter you from dropping a vote for us at Top Web Comics– where we’re slowly rising up the charts once again. Currently we’re sitting at 190– but hopefully with some of your clicks, we can hit the 150 mark by the end of the month!

Seeya next week on the Blog!!
