Welcome back for our second week of Spy6teen!
Page 2 was a lot of fun for us– If you followed us from the Zuda pitch, a few of these panels will look familiar to you, particularly the “boring old historical place”– It was a real treat seeing DJ and Lisa returning to the locations we’d established over a year ago. Not to say that we’re copypasta’ing our previous work– as you’ll notice, there are two new faces on this page making their Spy6teen debut!
Speaking of Zuda, if you follow comics or webcomics, you likely have heard that last week, DC closed up shop on the imprint.
As most of you know, Spy6teen was “born” on Zuda, which was DC Comics webcomic initiative, so it strikes me as an odd timing symmetry that the week DC closes Zuda happens to be the same week we strike out on our own.
One door closes as another opens, I suppose.
We’re very proud to be a part of the Zuda legacy. All of us met friends through the community and we were all exposed to some wonderfully talented creative teams from all over the world.
I believe our time on Zuda, and the fanbase we developed there, gave us the confidence to strike out on our own and continue Cally’s story. To that, we owe a debt of gratitude to the editors of Zuda for giving us our first break. Although I’m sad to see Zuda go, at least in it’s current incarnation– DC promises that it will return in a different format– I look forward to seeing fellow ex-Zudaites continuing on with their work, be it with DC or independently.
Ultimately, if it was Zuda’s purpose to galvanize creators to do a little butt kickin’, I think the imprint was wildly successful.
